Traditional Khamtey Zaw — puffed roasted rice with a nutty crunch, beloved as a snack and breakfast staple in Bhutan.
The full story
Khamtey Zaw is made by dry-roasting local rice until each grain puffs and turns golden. A timeless highland snack from Goenshari, it carries the toasty aroma of hearth-fired preparation.
Eat straight from the pack, mix with putka honey and butter tea, sprinkle over yogurt, or combine with roasted maize for a traditional trail mix. Can also be soaked briefly in milk for a quick breakfast.
Keep in a sealed bag away from moisture — humidity will soften the crunch.
